Many people in my life didn’t think I still had such traditional parents that thought their daughter couldn’t handle certain things because she was a girl. I want to tell people it’s okay. If you are a woman looking to join the STEM field, don’t focus on those that doubt on you, focus on those that believe in you. As a woman in tech, I support you, and I know you can do it!

A lot have been wondering how to stand out in their internships or what they can do in their now virtual internships. My suggestion is to reach out for a coffee chat or a lunch break call and really get your name out there. It may be difficult at first, but trust me: you’re FIERCE and you just need to believe in it.
When I was the only female intern at my time in Analytic Partners, I didn’t let that stop me. I proceeded to meet up with over 20 employees for coffee chats and lunch breaks to learn about them, the company, and their jobs. I built my spheres of influence. I even got to have a coffee chat with the CEO!
I also didn’t stop there and started Women Wednesdays. Since it was a data analytics consulting firm, it was hard to find women. It was maybe close to 25% of the firm. So I started Women Wednesdays which was a dedicated lunch every other Wednesday open to the women in the firm. Even the Chief People Officer, though male, took note of how it was as a woman in the firm in hopes to make a better experience for the company!
So let’s remind you I was 20 at the time. You don’t need to be 40 and high up in the ranks to start something like this: all it takes is guts to kick ass. You can do this! Make a name for yourself. The worst you get is a no, the best you get is a return offer from your internship for a full time job!
