Many people feel imposter syndrome for many different ways and reasons. Especially as a woman in tech, I feel this in more ways in tech consulting. For this video, I am focusing specifically in consulting. In a field where you need to be an “expert,” it’s hard to be a consultant if you only have college under your belt. We’re going to break it down today on how you can overcome imposter syndrome.
Many people feel imposter syndrome for many different ways and reasons. For this episode, I am focusing specifically in consulting or if you’re a young working professional. In a field where you need to be an “expert,” it’s hard to be a consultant if you only have college under your belt and tabloids. We’re going to break it down today on how you can overcome imposter syndrome.
This is my first solo episode! What did you think?
It is here! Time for me to be the one to get humiliated!
My Boyfriend Asks Me COMPTIA A+ IT Technical Questions! Last time, I quiz my computer science boyfriend about business. We are both technology consultants at Accenture, but there are technical and functional consultants. My boyfriend, Addison Chen, is a technical consultant and only knows techie stuff. I think this is hilarious to watch because most people assume technology consultants know everything about tech and IT support, and this will debunk it all!
Make sure to watch the video when I quiz Addison on business because functional consultants actually need that business knowledge to work and communicate with the client better! https://youtu.be/6IFi2x0_xd8

I always get asked what should you expect on a project, and honestly this changes across firms, type of consulting, and even client and scope!
I know, I know, it’s the all too famous “it depends,” but I broke it up to a structure I noticed in most firms either big or boutique. Project size also differs as well. Management and strategy consulting may have smaller teams and tech tends to have bigger teams. Sometimes engagement manager/delivery lead is the same person as the project manager to be even leaner!
One other big misconception is analysts just “analyze” and don’t truly do consulting. It really is just a title, but you would typically be a support consultant. You might need to warm up to the responsibilities and tasks first, but you’re still going to be doing the work consultants will be doing, though you may have fewer client facing situations.
How is your current team structure, whether it be consulting or not?

On Monday, we spoke about time management in a room on Clubhouse hosted by be.boldest with other women in consulting such as Way Into Consulting, Kristina Choi, and management.consultant.
PST, check them out, they are AMAZING resources if you’re interested in consulting!
What I found very important to keep in mind of with time management is not to just manage your time around work and career but also to pencil in time for your own mental health. Work life balance in consulting could be exceptionally hard to juggle a side hustle and time for yourself to destress and relax, but it’s not always as bad as everyone says it is. It’s more like a rollercoaster on which firm, client, and role. Even down to the project stage.
You should still prepare for those 80 hour (let’s pray it never gets that high) work weeks if you’re interested in consulting, but it should be temporary. Otherwise, you need to set your boundaries and value your mental health and relationships!

This is one everyone wonders about but doesn’t talk about. Even though I’m a technology consultant at Accenture, I do know the general structure of salaries and compensation for most firms after talking to many of my peers in other firms. I’m going to give a breakdown of what really makes up salaries and compensation for consultants, analyzing Management Consulted’s 2021 Salary Report, go over some misconceptions about the salaries and compensation for consultants, and how you can raise your worth in consulting. This will not go over how to get promoted as that would make it a much longer video, but that video is coming up, so make sure to subscribe!
