Consulting Staffing Process

Did you know after a job interview and job offer, you STILL have to search for projects? You can either wait for your staffing coordinator to find one for you or you take it in your own hands to network and find the projects you want to do to advance your own career in the way you want to!

Here is the typical staffing process. Sometimes you even get client interviews and the client could decide on which resources should be staffed on the project and sometimes it’s more of an introduction.

I know many people who don’t find their work to be fulfilling in consulting, and while partially that could be because of the firm, sometimes it’s actually because of you. The staffing and networking process is where you can pave your own path. Most people who do wait for a project while “on the bench” (which means unstaffed), won’t get a project they want.

What kind of projects would you want to be staffed on?

Top Tech Trends 2021

I think the top tech trends of 2021 are really interesting to look at because a lot is actually driven by the pandemic. One thing to note is most people think of high tech but don’t actually see things like advanced covid development as “tech.” Many companies develop technology behind the scenes to operate more efficiently and effectively. Even animation studios develop in-house technology to animate better hair on characters!

Which tech trend do you think will take off the most and is there anything on this list you think should be here?

Big vs. Boutique Consulting Firms

I’m always a fan of boutique firms and always didn’t understand why so many people cared about being in the MBB or Big 4 as the ONLY destination. Boutique firms provide so much value and is actually how I started out when I did my data analytics consulting internship at Analytic Partners in NYC.

There are pros and cons to both big and boutique firms, but frankly it also depends on what you want to do with your career. Large consulting firms are great if you still want to explore many different parts of consulting and industries, and boutique firms are great to get a lot of focused experience and skills in a particular industry, field, or region – like data analytics at Analytic Partners!

Next time ask yourself why do you want to pursue consulting or the field you’re interested, and it can help you make the decision!

I am also going to develop the Technology Consulting Community as a stronger self-standing entity!

What is UX?

What is UX? This is such a key skill in the tech world that even non-UX specialists should know! Especially in technology consulting, it’s engrained even more to tailor a solution to the client.

I didn’t know much about UX until I interviewed Derek Mei for my podcast and also when he held a workshop for Technology Consulting Community. The more I learned about it, the more excited I became. It is such a cool job in tech now to be in and you don’t even need to code!

Now can you tell me the difference between UX and UI?

Consulting Work Life Balance

On Monday, we spoke about time management in a room on Clubhouse hosted by be.boldest with other women in consulting such as Way Into Consulting, Kristina Choi, and management.consultant.

PST, check them out, they are AMAZING resources if you’re interested in consulting!

What I found very important to keep in mind of with time management is not to just manage your time around work and career but also to pencil in time for your own mental health. Work life balance in consulting could be exceptionally hard to juggle a side hustle and time for yourself to destress and relax, but it’s not always as bad as everyone says it is. It’s more like a rollercoaster on which firm, client, and role. Even down to the project stage.

You should still prepare for those 80 hour (let’s pray it never gets that high) work weeks if you’re interested in consulting, but it should be temporary. Otherwise, you need to set your boundaries and value your mental health and relationships!

⬇️ Comment down below on what is important to you in work life balance!
