What if you don’t know the answer?

I love this because we are always asked to know the answers! But how exactly should you answer questions you don’t know? Deflecting is not the way, but there are so many other ways you can respond to clients (or team members!) when they ask a question!

Especially in my first year in consulting, I didn’t know anything about Workday, the industry my clients were in, and “best practices.” I had to start from the ground up but I did draw from my experiences in my past jobs and internships! You always want to be honest and transparent but also be a trustworthy and knowledgeable consultant even when you just graduated. Here are my takes!

Types of Consulting

As a technology consultant at Accenture, of course I have preferences to tech, but I don’t think many people realize there are more to consulting than just management and strategy consulting. These are the biggest buckets in consulting, but there are still subsets of consulting under them as well. Some can even be focused on industries like healthcare or more specialized as well like change management.

How do TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANTS find PROJECTS

Something that differs greatly in the consulting world from the typical corporate world is how you find projects and work. Plus, what exactly do you need to do to even get staffed on a project?

In this video, I go over WHAT exactly is the staffing model, what’s the process, how can you get staffed, and some tips as well for you to find your first project or get staffed on a competitive and hot project! I also go over the subtle nuances of how this may differ in technology consulting.

Consulting is not for everyone, and frankly, staffing can be one of those things in the industry that can deter OR attract you to the career! It’s also one of those impressive nuggets of information that can really show the company you’re interviewing for that you truly understand what’s expected of you in the job and to succeed! 😉

My channel focuses on professional development but I also highlight my experience, lifestyle, and insights into a career in technology consulting in hopes to encourage more women to consider this amazing career – especially in STEM!
