YouTube Live! Ask me anything!

I posted this on my Instagram stories and YouTube Community tab, but I’m doing a YouTube Live on Thursday, April 28 at 7 PM EDT!
Ask me any questions here in the comments for me to answer live or tune in and ask me live!
You can ask me anything about tech, careers, consulting, technology consulting, Accenture, Google or myself!
If technology consulting or consulting in general speaks to you, make sure to follow me and also check out my YouTube channel that focuses on technology consulting, consulting, careers, professional & personal development, and money for the young working professional!
My Biggest Issue with Technology Consulting: A Big Reason Why I Left Accenture
The nature of project-based work is unpredictable and sometimes out of your control based off of the many factors that put you in a powerless position. This video will go over my biggest issue with technology consulting and something you should be aware of as well as this can happen to anyone in any consulting firm or field.
I waited for a few months to film this video because I was angry, frustrated, and upset. You may even still hear some anger and frustration in this video because sometimes you’re put in a powerless position, but sometimes you need to take your career in your own hands.
Have you experienced this? What would you do in this situation if this were you?
HOW TO GET A JOB IN TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING: Application Strategy | CAREER COACHING WITH CHRISTINE
I worked with Ivan on a job application strategy to enter into technology consulting! Sometimes pivoting in isn’t that hard if you think about the important and relevant skills needed and pull it from everywhere, not just your work experience! We also spoke about how to stand out by networking (and some juicy tips using Linkedin), as well as the interview process and how to prepare! I’ve covered in previous episodes about case interviews and my YouTube channel also has a lot of resources on that! Check out PrepLounge as well!

My Consulting Interview Process

Consulting recruiting season is here! Around this time four years ago was when I had my first round of interviews! Here was my process when pursuing the TDP at Accenture!
I do want to note that a lot can happen in four years. We even had the covid-19 pandemic! This will greatly change how firms approach the recruiting process to adapt and improve!
How was your process? What are you most scared of within the process? Let me know down below in the comments!
I also did make a video recently on how to prepare and succeed in the consulting recruitment process, so make sure to check for that on my YouTube channel!

Another Testimony!

Yet another success story! My very first coaching client back when I started in January actually had great response and got called for interviews and eventually landed an internship the past summer!
A few updates on my content while I’m here:
🌟To focus more on quality, I’m only going to release one video a week on my YouTube channel except on weeks I have a video podcast episode!
🌟I am also reducing my podcast episode schedule to every other week. This is also to improve the quality of the podcast recording as well!
🌟I am going full throttle on career coaching with the upcoming recruitment season as well as focusing on building up Technology Consulting Community!
If you are interested in a career in technology consulting, make sure to join Technology Consulting Community’s Facebook group, Clubhouse, and Discord server to join the discussions on how to launch and grow your career in technology consulting! We also have free events, programs, activities, and workshops.

Essential Skills for Consulting

You probably expected PowerPoint and Excel, right? Here are the skills I found the most important and also one of the hardest to learn because it requires experience and practice. That’s the beauty of consulting is that you’ll always be learning and adapting!
Don’t be overwhelmed if you’re trying to get into consulting and realize you don’t have any of this or even exposure to sharpen these skills! You most likely have already worked on this, you just need to transfer those experiences over.
You can learn situational awareness by sometimes literally observing in internships or the dynamic and reading the room at your jobs and internships or simply asking your manager or mentor what would you do in that situation. It’s something that comes with time and there is no one right answer for everything, but you’ll get it!
For storytelling, think about how you tell stories to your friends about what happened last week or convincing your parents to let you get a dog. 😂
Thinking on your feet is something easily found everywhere! If someone asked you for directions or if you worked at a restaurant or in retail, how would you respond or if a teacher cold called you, what would you do?
These are all essential skills, but it’s important to know that as we evolve, so do the skills! Just keep sharpening them and don’t stop learning!

What if you don’t know the answer?

I love this because we are always asked to know the answers! But how exactly should you answer questions you don’t know? Deflecting is not the way, but there are so many other ways you can respond to clients (or team members!) when they ask a question!
Especially in my first year in consulting, I didn’t know anything about Workday, the industry my clients were in, and “best practices.” I had to start from the ground up but I did draw from my experiences in my past jobs and internships! You always want to be honest and transparent but also be a trustworthy and knowledgeable consultant even when you just graduated. Here are my takes!
What is your go to and how would you rank these yourself in order of preference! Do you have something else you do instead? Share them in a comment down below!

Types of Consulting
As a technology consultant at Accenture, of course I have preferences to tech, but I don’t think many people realize there are more to consulting than just management and strategy consulting. These are the biggest buckets in consulting, but there are still subsets of consulting under them as well. Some can even be focused on industries like healthcare or more specialized as well like change management.
Let me know in the comments which one you’re interested in pursuing or if you already are a consultant! Curious as to why it speaks to you as well!
